Acopunture

An ancient art that harmonises inner energies, restoring a sense of well-being and serenity to every fibre of your being.

Traditional Chinese Medicine is one of the oldest medical practices known to humankind.
Today, thanks to its extraordinary ability to prevent illness and improve a person’s well-being, it is widely practised throughout the world. Traditional Chinese Medicine is a holistic discipline in that it regards the whole of reality as a single entity. Man is not an entity separate from the whole; he is part of the whole, a microcosm within a macrocosm. Man is considered an inseparable entity of body, mind and spirit. A person’s well-being is viewed within a broader context that encompasses the entire universe.

The basic principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine are rooted in Taoism, an ancient philosophical and spiritual tradition that synthesises the major currents of Chinese thought. This discipline is based on a system of vital energies (Qi) that circulate through the body along specific channels (meridians) which influence all the body’s functions. The correct flow of this energy ensures a person’s physical and mental well-being.

Traditional Chinese Medicine has developed various systems to promote, improve and strengthen a person’s energy balance. These systems include Acupuncture, Tui-Na (acupressure, manipulation and massage), Chinese Dietetics, Chinese Herbal Medicine, and Qi Gong (a specific form of energy-meditative exercise).

Each of these broad categories in turn comprises various subcategories or complementary techniques. For example, within the field of Acupuncture there is Auriculotherapy, Cranial Acupuncture, Electroacupuncture, Moxibustion, Cupping, etc.
At the Lakshmi Centre, you will find experts in various fields to promote and stabilise your well-being.

Traditional Chinese Medicine

Acupuncture

Acupuncture: involves the stimulation of specific points on the skin’s surface by inserting and manipulating fine, single-use needles. These needles remain in place for around 20 minutes; during this time, the stimulation provided by the needles activates certain bodily functions, restoring physiological balance. The insertion of the needles produces a slight pricking sensation, and pain is rarely felt.

Ear acupuncture

The ear represents an inverted embryo, with the head represented in the lobe, the spine in the area of the antihelix, and the organs in the area of the concha. Studies conducted in both France and China recognise the ear as a microsystem that reflects the entire human body. Auriculotherapy, like acupuncture, involves inserting small needles into specific reflex zones within the ear in order to promote the body’s functions.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion involves the thermal stimulation of acupuncture points by burning a herb – usually mugwort – or using other heat sources. Acupuncture points can be heated using various methods, such as moxa cones or moxa cigars, or through the use of ointments or special plasters, or with modern electric moxibustion devices.

Cupping

Cupping: this involves stimulating acupuncture points by applying cups or suction cups to the area of skin selected for treatment, creating a suction effect.
