Osteopathy

A journey of deep rebalancing that combines science and sensitivity to restore the body’s natural harmony.

Osteopathy is a holistic manual therapy that originated in America in the late 1800s, thanks to the physician Andrew Taylor Still.
Dr Still learnt various methods of traditional Native American shamanic medicine and integrated them with his medical knowledge, creating what he termed Osteopathy. This discipline uses effective, non-invasive manipulative techniques to promote the body’s natural adaptive and self-healing capabilities, thereby optimising all physiological processes and contributing to improved health. The primary aim of osteopathic treatment is to improve the body’s homeostatic processes. Improving homeostatic mechanisms increases the functional efficiency of tissues, enhances quality of life and boosts resistance to disease and trauma.

Thanks to its great effectiveness, this discipline has spread throughout the world. Osteopathy boasts a wide range of manipulative techniques; indeed, a professional osteopath is able to manipulate virtually every type of tissue in the body. Osteopathy has 4 approaches and 5 models under which it groups all its manipulative techniques.
The four approaches are:

  • Musculoskeletal Osteopathy, which includes joint and spinal manipulation
  • Myofascial Osteopathy which involves a very wide range of soft tissue manipulations (muscles, ligaments, tendons, connective fasciae, etc.)
  • Visceral Osteopathy which involves manipulation of the internal organs
  • Cranial Osteopathy which involves manipulation of the bones of the skull and face, the meninges and various tissues of the brain.

The five models, on the other hand, are:

  • the Biomechanical Model, which deals with manipulations of the organism’s biomechanical and postural systems
  • the Fluidic Model, which deals with manipulations of blood and lymphatic vessels
  • the Neurological Model which deals with manipulations of the nerves and nerve plexuses
  • the Metabolic Model which deals with manipulating tissues in relation to metabolism
  • the Biopsychosocial Model, which deals with psychocorporal manipulations.

Our Massages

Musculoskeletal Osteopathy

Musculoskeletal osteopathy uses spinal and joint manipulation techniques. It is particularly effective in alleviating joint pain and stiffness. It corrects postural misalignments and promotes skeletal mobility.

Myofascial Osteopathy

Myofascial Osteopathy is a gentle yet deep manual therapy that employs manipulation techniques on soft tissues, muscles, tendons and ligaments. It is designed to relax the whole body, relieve all types of tension, improve the flexibility of the musculoskeletal system, release adhesions and revitalise the tissues.

Visceral Osteopathy

Visceral Osteopathy is a manual therapy applied to the abdomen, pelvis, chest, peripheral nerves and nerve plexuses, as well as blood and lymphatic vessels. These specific manipulation techniques promote targeted drainage for each organ, supporting visceral functions and alleviating organ congestion. It helps with abdominal bloating, constipation, gastric discomfort, a feeling of fullness, heavy legs, excess weight, slow digestion, poor urine output, menstrual pain, abdominal tension, etc.

Craniosacral Osteopathy

Craniosacral Osteopathy is a treatment that involves gentle manipulation of the bones of the skull in order to restore balance throughout the body by relaxing the nervous system. This treatment is a powerful stress reliever and has a profound relaxing effect on both the mind and body. It promotes nervous system functions such as vitality and mental clarity, a sense of freedom and serenity, memory and creativity.

Sports Osteopathy

Sports osteopathy is a treatment specifically designed for athletes and those who participate in sport. It uses specific manual techniques to prevent sports injuries, improve athletic performance and restore the body’s balance following intense physical exertion.

Somato-Emotional Osteopathy

Somato-Emotional Osteopathy is a manual therapy that focuses primarily on working with a person’s emotional state. It uses gentle touch on the body to encourage the release of emotions that have built up over time. It induces a deep state of physical and mental relaxation, which may manifest as the release of emotions. After the treatment, people usually report feeling lighter, more aware, relaxed, optimistic and with a profound sense of inner peace.
